Alright, alright... sorry, as you can tell I haven't been on-line much this week... you have not idea not only do I have to post all of my trimester grade I have to pack up my room and an move as I'm in a different room when we track on... tonight will be my first night at home all week.. I promise I'll update the points before I go to bed... sleep who needs sleep... haha...

OK, OK... While I have about 3 to 4 hours of work ahead of me here's the update... (oh and Mom will be back in full force this weekend... OK no wait this week... No whinning... Haha... (I'm adding something to this one and I'm going to go back and edit the others... winning if listed.. will be in bold)... Something interesting look at the old points Tony's solid in the top ten and if the chase had 12 like they are talking about for next year he'd be 5th... (Tony has a 270 point lead for 11th...)

Thank you Karen! Awesome job!
Been researching this Chase thing (new to racing) and concluded that it makes NO SENSE. I understand it was setup to be a "playoff" type of format but why are the non-chasers on the track with the chasers? Colts aren't on the field with my Pats during playoffs (sorry Smoke. luv our homeboys Peyton and Brandon but I'm committed) No playoffs ? watch from the sidelines with beer.
I'm probably missing something so please feel free to educate me.
And, I'm sending gas cards to the drivers for Christmas.........

Ann... that's not an easy question to answer and in all reality any given person could probably come up their won answer (or opinion) of it... here's how the chase started...
A few years ago Bill France Jr. stepped down as head of nascar and turned the stuff over to his son Brian... about this time Winston decided that they would set down at the series sponser... this opened the door for Nextel to come one... Brian and Nextel came in and decided to make some "changes" in the hopes of making this "more exciting" espically down the stretch... See in years past there have been times where the champions was know long before the final race of the season making it sort of anti-climatic (think Busch points this season... but I don't think anyone ever gotten that type of lead in Cup... something to research).. anyways the year all this "change" in the front offices was happening Kenesth was having one of those run away years when that anti-climatic thing was happening at Homestead (but all TPTB would have had to do to see a points battle that came done to basically the last lap of the race was Tony's win the year befor over Mark by 36 points)... anyways Brian and Nextel want something the "compete" with the "playoffs" of stick and ball sports so they came up with the idea of the chase... 10 drivers or possibly more if someone with within 400 points by the 26th race of the season... They have point reset and fight it out the last 10 weeks for a seat at the head table in New York... Now why don't just the cars that make the chase run the last 10 races... $$$$$ it all come down to money... sponsors pay upwards of 10 to 20 million dollars to have their colors on a car that is going around a track... if nascar limited the cars on the track to just 10 you'd have 33 pissed off sponsors out there... One thing you have to consider when comparing racing to stick and ball sports is nascar is a sport where all 43 teams on on the playing field at once all trying to win the same "game" if you will... whereas in say football teams only compete on the field against one other team at a time... The Bears can't play, GB, Minn, TB, SF, NY.... ect all at once... but in nascar we don't have just two teams out there... it's not like we see Jeff Gordon Vs. Tony Stewart at CMS and Kevin Harvick Vs. Carl Edwards at Bristol... ect... no all 43 take to the track at the same time... major difference... so all teams still compete but the chase drivers about basically only competing for points against each other but with everyone on the track for the win...
OK now for my PERSONAL opinions... OK we all know that I don't like the chase... so I won't rehash that.. but I do think that since we have the stupid thing if they really want it to "work" then the 10 drivers need their own separate system so they get points based on finishing 1st - 10th of the driver in the chase that way a driver can't lose 153 points in one race to the leader.... I think I'd figure out a points system something like ... will I'll type that out tomorrow I'm tired now and I have to do the math.... |

I read about them wanting to make it more competitive which is all good with me. Boring without competition but isn't the point to win? Maybe I need a few more years of this to fully grasp the racing process. And I understand the sponsor money. Maybe more people would be watching the chase races instead of the non-chase races unless they were on separate days?
Enough brain bashes for now. I'll just grab my beer & enjoy the race (with my car staying intact!) Dirt racing looks awesome too. Paid to play in the dirt!! That's explainable............

yeah but if they did they still would win this year......
i don't like the chase, stupid idea that does not belong in racing.. all they would have had to do to tighten up the championship is adopt a points system used by racing series like Cart and the IRL.. I watched 4 guys battle it out for the big trophy in Chicago a few weeks ago..If Hornish finished 4th, Wheldon coulda won it.. instead Hornish finished 3rd getting his 3rd championship in a tie breaker(Hornish had more wins then Wheldon)

Guess I am in the minority on this issue. I like the Chase, it puts more fans in the seats and is a major moneymaker for Nascar. Now the Chase system needs to be adjusted with more drivers qualifing but if a Chasers finish 43rd in a race...too bad. They all start off no worse than 50 points behind the leader, so dropping off into the points abyss is part of racing.
Now the non-chasers only have to concentrate on winning races, I think Nascar could come up with a Bonus system for the non-chasers who finish with the best record in the last 10 races, something besides the 1 million for 11th.
I already made a case for a Super Bowl of Nascar, a race involving the Best Drivers with no restrictions after the Nextel Season champion had already been decided, now what sponsor whould not want to see their car in that race, let alone Victory Lane. Now that would be a true All Star race! |

I've checked the results and the two times I check it looked like they were "playing" a little with them... once they had JR and JJ finishing ahead of Denny and Tony... then now it looks like they are behind them... I have to work Monday (yes I know but I couldn't turn down the extra money for subbing) then I have a B-Day party Monday night... but I'll see if I can't get our grid updated at least before I go to bed Monday night... I just refuse to do it now and find out I have to redo it once the result become "official".. |
