| OK people what did everyone think? 1. about the "accident", 2. about the car going airborne 3. about nascar parking Carl for the last few laps and 4. about the "probation".... |

didn't like it.
i understand "rubbin' is racing" and that's, generally, what a lot of hardcore fans were first drawn into and want to see, -but what Carl did wasn't racing. he was some 150 laps down and Brad was racing for top 10(which would've been really good for him right now), so it was intentional(as if we didn't know) and wrong. i get "payback" and the additional drama and draw it produces, but good racing is already drama enough without the danger of killing someone to make oneself feel better.
i personally don't have a problem with NASCAR allowing the boys to "have at it" 'cause to me it means allowing them to bump and rub to fight for a win or for position. even in other professional sports, refs allow the boys to play when the BIG prize is on the line. -but when contact happens(whether it's a punch, kick, or "bump") out of just sheer ill will and harm, well... that's where the line should be drawn. it no longer becomes a sport.
the car going airborne was nuts! always a shock when you see that. glad Brad was ok.
parking Carl and the probation are just wrist slaps. i'm assuming NASCAR is just validating they're new policy to the public. like i said, minus "payback", i like the policy. -and you know what, "paybacks" are always going to happen, anyway, so NASCAR should, at least, as an organization preserve the good sportsmanship aspect of the sport.
-but that's just me... :)

I agree completely Kee... very well said! Hey I love rubb'n just as much as the next gal, but there is a time and a place for it and 190 mph at ATL wasn't it... let boys be boys... but there is a difference in rubb'n on someone and wrecking them as Carl did... The other thing to remember is that rubb'ns racing start back when the VAST majority of tracks were short track where the speeds are much different... We still have a hand full of short tracks (a couple coming up shortly) save then heck, I do hope nascar lets the boys play but as I said 190 mph and 90 mph are makes a HUGH difference...
As for the airborne thing, seriously DUH it's the wing! Yes cars can still sometimes get in the air with a spoiler but it's not as common... It's like the wing completely negates the air flaps... I think we'll see a big difference in flying cars once the spoiler is back on... |

Racing for position is one thing, and I have a very high tolerance for fender-bending in those circumstances – but using a nearly two-ton missile traveling at nearly 200mph simply as a bludgeon would be attempted murder in any other setting (think about it), and I think the Association needs to be very wary of countenancing that. Edwards was surely having a bad-hair day and one can be understanding of his disappointment and frustration but that wouldn’t excuse a vehicular homicide if things suddenly went wrong… further, there often is a high indulgence for aggressive driving in the heat of the moment when actually racing, but separated by one-hundred something laps and over an hour, this wasn’t just adrenalin run amuck, but premeditation…
Most days it would seem over-the-top to couch racing in legal/criminal terms, but if things go sour, that’ll be the microscope used… The Association needs to set clear, unambiguous guidelines for their new-found “boys will be boys” broadmindedness…
